Improvisation Chamber Ensemble Program 2

[00:04 - 00:09]
No Wayne State University improvisation chamber ensemble was organized in
[00:09 - 00:13]
1966 by Dr. Ruth Wylie. The group was originally conceived
[00:13 - 00:18]
as a teaching aid but soon it was receiving enthusiastic reactions from concert audiences
[00:18 - 00:23]
during the past year Dr. Wiley's Chamber Ensemble has performed in several
[00:23 - 00:28]
states and an entirely new idiom of musical performance has been developed by the
[00:28 - 00:33]
performances still maintain their experimental character. Now I'm here with tonight's
[00:33 - 00:40]
programme of improvisation is Professor Ruth Wylie of Wayne State University.
[00:40 - 00:44]
Thank you and good evening.
[00:44 - 00:49]
The second program by the Wayne State University improvisation Chamber Ensemble.
[00:49 - 00:54]
Will be very similar to the first in the sense that we intend to do one
[00:54 - 00:59]
number in two different versions for you and then fill out the program with one or
[00:59 - 01:03]
more free improvisations at the at the end of the program. This work in
[01:03 - 01:09]
this work we will make use of a smaller group than the five that we normally make use.
[01:09 - 01:14]
And this is a trio written by one of our members John Wray our trio
[01:14 - 01:17]
for flute percussion and piano.
[01:17 - 01:23]
No I'm sorry it's double bass and trumpet double bass and piano. The
[01:23 - 01:28]
reason I'm confused is we have done it in other versions too. But I'll
[01:28 - 01:33]
reiterate that so you can be sure to get it right. This is piano trumpet percussion
[01:33 - 01:38]
trio by John Ray. Although I usually play the flute in the group
[01:38 - 01:43]
once in a while I like to play the piano in the some of these
[01:43 - 01:48]
performances because it's a little more enjoyable and perhaps I may do a little better at it.
[01:48 - 01:53]
So I will be playing the piano in this number and in both versions as a matter of fact
[01:53 - 01:58]
so that you can see that there is a difference even when the same performer is involved at the
[01:58 - 02:03]
piano. So the first version for you.
[02:03 - 02:09]
With myself at the piano. Jim Hart way percussion Frank Bucholtz trumpet.
[02:09 - 02:11]
A trio By JOHN RHEA.
[02:11 - 04:44]
The A.
[04:44 - 06:25]
Right.
[06:25 - 12:12]
Were.
[12:12 - 12:35]
You have just heard the first version of the trio By JOHN RHEA for
[12:35 - 12:39]
piano trumpet and percussion. And now we are about to
[12:39 - 12:42]
do for you a second version with the same performers.
[12:42 - 14:26]
Why.
[14:26 - 20:48]
Or.
[20:48 - 28:47]
We have just played second free improvisation this time for Two
[28:47 - 28:52]
Pianos. The pianist where John and myself. May I remind you
